This is the fountain in the park near our apartment. It is called Pushkin Park and it has become party central with lots of people sitting on the benches, kids all around and quite often a live band or just recorded music playing for some reason we are not sure about. Thirsty for a beer? No problem. You can buy a beer and drink it in the park.
Just down the street on the way to the park.
On the same street just down a little is the President of Moldova's official residence. Interesting that no one has lived there for about 2 years because they don't have a president. The highest ranking elected official is the Prime Minister. I don't know where he lives. It's usually pretty quite here unless there is a special dinner or function happening.
This apartment building is across the street from ours. Lots of trees but no grass. That happens a lot. The red and white posts are to keep the cars from parking close to the building. There are lots of cars here and very little parking. It is very common to see cars parked on the sidewalks.
This is our apartment building and the front of our apartment on the first floor. All the apartment buildings have decorative bars on the windows of the first floor. Interesting since you would need a ladder to get into the window.
This is near the entrance to our building and the parking lot is just in front of the little garden. No blooms at the moment.
The front entrance to the building. It is 6 stories tall. Most of the apartment buildings are 6 or 7 stories. It was built in the Soviet era and is not so attractive looking on the outside. The Soviets built buildings with only functionality as their goal.
Next door to us. Bright enough?
Another building close by. There are some buildings in very poor condition and some that look very nice, similar to this. Most are somewhere in between including our apartment building. Chisinau is a very green city with lots of trees and flowers.
We just returned from four days in Istanbul and had a great time. Next post soon - I hope.
